Agenda Item Brief: Consideration and possible approval of the purchase and installation of two Game Time play structures for Les Hicks Park, to Great Western, in the amount of $189,057.60. The purchase of this play equipment will replace the existing deteriorated structures at Les Hicks Park. Staff recommends approval.
Background: The current play equipment at Les Hicks Park is fifteen years old. Based on review by City Staff, the structures require replacement to allow for safe play. Two pieces of equipment for the park are being purchased, one for ages 2 thru 5 and another for ages 5 and up. The Game Time Play equipment is standard play equipment that the City purchases and installs at neighborhood parks. The Funding for this equipment is coming from Park Construction Tax District 2 Fund 1407.
Analysis: Great Western is the authorized supplier of Game Time play equipment on the west coast. If approved, the City would be using the “joinder” provision of a contract awarded by Carson City for Game Time equipment. The total cost for both pieces of play equipment is $189,057.60 and includes installation. The supplier is subcontracting to a local contractor for installation of the play equipment. A copy of the quote, pieces of equipment being purchased, and map of the site are attached for the Council’s review.
Alternatives: 1. City Council could approve the purchase of two Game Time play structures for Les Hicks, to Great Western as outlined by Staff. 2. City Council could reject purchase of two Game Time play structures for Les Hicks Park, to Great Western, and provide direction to the City Manager.
Recommended Motion: “I move to approve the purchase of two Game Time play structures for Les Hicks Park, to Great Western, in the amount of $189,057.60.”
