Agenda Item Brief:

Equipment Services is requesting authorization to spend $188,788.25 to replace five vehicles for the Police Department: (4) Tahoe’s & (1) Caprice from Champion Chevrolet.

Background:

This request is for the replacement of five Police Department vehicles #2200, #2201, #2202, #2204, & 2303. The last two units where involved in accidents and the monies collected from insurance will go to pay off the remaining balance owed in the vehicle replace fund. The first three vehicles have reached the end of their life cycle. These three vehicles will be reevaluated and may be reused as a replacement for other older vehicles in the fleet.

Analysis:

In sourcing these vehicles, if approved, the City would be using the joinder provision allowed under NRS 332.195, and purchasing these vehicles utilizing the State of Nevada vehicle bid. Utilizing existing bids have historically been the most competitive. Utilizing the “joinder” provision allows the City to precisely define the vehicles needed while foregoing the need to formally bid the item.

Alternatives:
  1. Council could approve this purchase as outlined by staff.
  2. Council could deny this purchase.
  3. Council could direct staff to provide alternatives to this purchase.

Recommended Motion:

I move to approve the purchase of five vehicles from Champion Chevrolet in the amount of $188,788.25.
