Agenda Item Brief:

Staff is requesting approval of the purchase of four vehicles in the amount of $140,876.

Background:

Staff is requesting approval of the purchase of (2) Ram 1500 Crew Cab 4x4 short bed pick-ups; (1) Ram 2500 Crew Cab SRW 4x4 as replacements for units #2401, 2501 & 210D; and (1) Ram 5500 Crew Cab DRW Chassis as a new need for SWAT. All vehicles are for the Police Department. The three vehicles being replaced will be reevaluated and may be reused as a replacement for other older vehicles in the fleet.

Analysis:

In sourcing these vehicles, if approved, the City will be utilizing the “joinder” provision allowed under NRS 332.115, and purchasing these vehicles utilizing the state of Nevada vehicle bid. Utilizing existing bids have historically been the most completive. Utilizing the “joiner” provision allows the City to precisely define the vehicles needed while foregoing the need to formally bid the item.

Alternatives:
  1. Council could approve this purchase as outlined by staff.
  2. Council could deny this purchase.
  3. Council could direct staff to provide alternatives to this purchase.

Recommended Motion:

I move to approve the purchase of four (4) vehicles from Carson Dodge in the amount of $140,876.
