Agenda Item Brief: The Parks and Recreation Department would like to accept a donation of $5,000.00 (five thousand dollars) to assist with the purchase of two new wireless scoreboards for the Alf Sorensen Community Center Gymnasium.

Background: When the Alf Sorensen Community Center was built in 1982, electronic scoreboards were never installed in the gymnasium. To date, staff has used manual score readers and portable table top scoreboards.

Analysis: For the first time in the 29 year history of our Youth Basketball Program we will have two large wireless electronic scoreboards that every one can see from across the gymnasium. The partnership with the Reno Bighorns will make this a reality through a greatly appreciated $5,000.00 (five thousand dollars) donation. This is especially meaningful during this economic downturn and lack of resources. As a result of Cindy Brantner, Recreation Specialist and the Reno Bighorns working together on this partnership, the scoreboards will be an exciting addition to our very popular Youth Basketball Program. The Reno Bighorns will also be included in our Partners in Parks program.

Alternatives: The Council may elect not to accept this donation.

Recommended Motion: I move to approve the acceptance of a $5,000.00 (five thousand dollars) donation from the Reno Bighorns to the Sparks Parks and Recreation Department to assist in the purchase of two wireless electronic scoreboards for the Alf Sorensen Community Center Gymnasium.
