Title: Consideration and possible award of a contract for the Maintenance Bull Pen Roof Replacement Project Informal Quote to Alpine Roofing Company, Inc., in the amount of $39,900.

Recommendation: Staff recommends that Council award the Maintenance Bull Pen Roof Replacement Project Informal Quote to Alpine Roofing Company, Inc., in the amount of $39,900.

Financial Impact: This project was approved in the 2012/2013 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). Budget authority of $39,900 for this contract is available in Program 13-1505 Maintenance Bull Pen Roof Replacement Project in the Ad Valorem Fund 1405. Construction expenses will post to Account 604050 Buildings, Program 13-1505.

Agenda Item Brief: Consideration and possible award of the Maintenance Bull Pen Roof Replacement Project Informal Quote to Alpine Roofing Company, Inc., in the amount of $39,900. This project will include the installation of a TPO membrane roof on the Maintenance Garage. City staff recommends approval.

Background: The existing foam roof at the City of Sparks Maintenance Bull Pen Building is approximately 20 years old and requires replacement. The project was identified two years ago during evaluation of the City facility roofs while developing the City’s 5 year CIP. An informal quote was developed based on the estimated cost of the project. The project will consist of scarifying the existing foam roof and installation of a new Fleece Back TPO membrane roof; along with adjustment of the mechanical roof crickets.

Analysis: Staff met with three contractors on October 1, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. on site to request informal quotes for the Maintenance Bull Pen Roof Replacement Project, a recap of the quotes are given below and attached to this agenda. Base Quote Kodiak Roofing $ 54,500 Alpine Roofing $ 39,900 Sierra Single Ply $ 56,000

Alternatives: 1. City Council could award the Maintenance Bull Pen Roof Replacement Project as outlined by Staff. 2. City Council could reject the Maintenance Bull Pen Roof Replacement Project and provide direction to the City Manager.

Recommended Motion: “I move to award the Maintenance Bull Pen Roof Replacement Project Informal Quote to Alpine Roofing Company, Inc., in the amount of $39,900.”
