Agenda Item Brief: Consideration and possible acceptance of a Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition Fire Prevention and Safety Grant awarded by the Grant Programs Directorate of the Federal Emergency Management Agency in the amount of $1,000 to apply to the cost of distributing and placing digital (broadcast) and print Public Service Fire Safety Announcements.
Background: The Sparks Fire Department applied to the Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition to become a "Built for Life" fire department with the intent to obtain and use the grant funds to purchase digital (broadcast) and print for Public Service Fire Safety Announcements regarding residential smoke alarms and fire sprinklers.
Analysis: As a Built for Life fire department, Sparks fire department will focus some of its fire safety outreach activities through the media by educating the public about life-saving smoke alarms and residential fire sprinklers. The acceptance of this grant will greatly enhance the fire prevention bureau's ability to educate the public through media outlets.
Alternatives: Council can choose to not accept the Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition grant.
Recommended Motion: Move to accept the Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition grant in the amount of $1,000 to apply to the cost of distributing and placing digital (broadcast) and print Public Service Announcements.
