Agenda Item Brief: The Washoe County Local Emergency Planning Committee Grant Program has offered the Sparks Police Department a grant in the amount of $4,872 to purchase 18 new faceplates for gas masks used by police officers.
Background: The Local Emergency Planning Committee oversees granting of the United We Stand funds that are raised by a fee attached by the State of Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles to every "United We Stand" license plate registration annualy. Those funds are used per statute to fund the purchase of equipment for emergency responders.
Analysis: The grant amount, $4,872, will pay to replace 18 faceplates on gas maskS used by Sparks Police officers in the commission of their duties. The current faceplate is not well suited for certain activities that the officers may be required to do during an emergeny response. The replacement one is well suited.
Alternatives: The Police Department can seek funding elsewhere to meet this need.
Recommended Motion: I move to approve and accept the Local Emergency Planning Committee grant in the amount of $4,872.
