Agenda Item Brief: Contribution to the UNR City of Sparks Scholarship Fund

Background: The City of Sparks submitted the Sparks Sustainable Services Initiative program to the Nevada Taxpayers Association (NTA) for the Cashman Good Government Award, and the program was selected as one of the finalists for this year's award. In honor of NTA's 90th anniversary, the organization decided to give monetary awards to all of the finalists; and the City of Sparks received $500. The City Manager would like to send $500 to UNR for the City of Sparks Scholarship Fund. When the City Council created the fund several years ago, it was their intention to make an annual contribution to the fund. Unfortunately, due to the economic situation the last few years, that has not been possible. Council must approve sending $500 to UNR for the scholarship fund.

Alternatives: Council may decide not to send $500 to UNR for the City of Sparks Scholarship Fund.

Recommended Motion: I move to send $500 to the University of Nevada, Reno for the City of Sparks Scholarship Fund.
