Agenda Item Brief:

The Sparks Police Department is requesting authorization to accept a donation from the Dahl Family in the amount of $10,000.00 for the Police Department's Homeless Outreach and Proactive Engagement Team (HOPE). The donation would assist in the development of outreach programs as directed by the HOPE Team.

Background:

The Sparks Police Department started the Homeless Outreach and Proactive Engagement Team in May of 2020. Since that time, they have made hundreds of contacts and have assisted in getting many of the homeless population services. The HOPE Team has the ability to connect with many of those citizens experiencing homelessness and this donation would help fund some of those future projects.

Analysis:

The Sparks Police Department HOPE Team Sergeant, John Vasquez, was approached by the Dahl family, who have been especially supportive of the team's efforts. The Dahl Family wanted to make this substantial donation to the HOPE team to assist in future projects and outreach programs.

Alternatives:

1. Council could accept the donation of $10,000.00.

2. The Council could reject the donation and provide direction to the City Manager.

Recommended Motion:

I move to accept the donation from the Dahl family to the Sparks Police Department for the Homeless Outreach and Proactive Engagement (HOPE) team for homeless outreach projects, in the amount of $10,000.00
