Agenda Item Brief:

Committee appointments.

Background:

The SCAC was established September 14, 2009 by Resolution 3162.   The committee formed to provide citizen input to the City Council, and to engage in and promote volunteerism in the City of Sparks.  The Mayor and Council make appointments to the SCAC.  Members must be residents of the City of Sparks who have a desire to learn more about city government and a willingness to share their knowledge with others.

Analysis:

The City of Sparks has one vacancy on the SCAC for a Ward 3 alternate appointment, coterminous with their appointing elected official.  Announcements concerning the vacancy were made at the January 27, 2020 and February 10, 2020 Sparks City Council meetings and five (5) applications were submitted.  Councilman Paul Anderson has reviewed the applicants and has chosen David Sousa.

Alternatives:

1.  Council may approve the appointment.

2.  Council may reject the appointment and provide further direction to the Mayor or the City Manager.

Recommended Motion:

I move to approve the appointment of David Sousa (alternate, Ward 3) to the Sparks Citizens Advisory Committee, for a term that is coterminous with his appointing elected official.
