Agenda Item Brief: Committee appointments

Background: The Western Regional Water Commission (WRWC) was created by the legislature as a governance structure for the regional planning of water resources. The WRWC operates under a Joint Powers Agreement among the City of Sparks, City of Reno, South Truckee Meadows General Improvement District, Sun Valley General Improvement District, Truckee Meadows Water Authority, and Washoe County. The City of Sparks appoints one member of the WRWC, and the City of Sparks and the City of Reno jointly appoint one member to represent the Truckee Meadows Water Reclamation Facility (TMWRF).

Analysis: Council Member Ron Smith is the WRWC member representing the City of Sparks, and Mayor Geno Martini is the jointly appointed member representing TMWRF. Both appointments are for two years and expire March 31, 2012. The City of Reno will be reappointing Mayor Martini to the WRWC at their March 28 meeting.

Recommended Motion: I move to confirm the appointment of Ron Smith to the Western Regional Water Commission representing the City of Sparks and Mayor Geno Martini representing the Truckee Meadows Water Reclamation Facility for the two-year term ending March 31, 2014.
