Agenda Item Brief: : Consideration and possible acceptance of a grant from the US Department of Energy, State Energy Program (SEP) to obtain operating equipment; supplies and three (3) iPads for the Building Division. City Staff recommends acceptance of this SEP grant.

Background: In February 2009, the State of Nevada accepted $34.7 million from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) State Energy Program (SEP) and certified that Nevada would implement energy standards of the latest national model residential and commercial energy codes - the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code (2009 IECC) and ASHRAE Standard 90.1 - 2007. The State is required to achieve 90 percent compliance in new and renovated buildings by 2017. In May 2009, SB73 was signed into law, establishing the standards adopted by the Nevada State Office of Energy as the minimum standards for building energy efficiency and conservation. The law requires local governments to adopt and enforce the most recent version of the IECC. As part of the move toward compliance with these codes, the SEP has offered to supply code books, a digital energy meter and three iPad devices to the City of Sparks to assist building inspectors and plans examiners in the field.

Analysis: None.

Alternatives: City Council could decide not to accept this grant.

Recommended Motion: I move to accept a Department of Energy State Energy Program grant for operating equipment and supplies in the amount of $3,284.95.
