Agenda Item Brief:

Committee appointments.

Background:

The Sparks Senior Citizen's Advisory Committee was established on July 9, 2018 by way of Resolution No. 3335.  The committee was formed so that essential senior citizen input would assist in informing the Council of issues related to the senior population and quality of life for seniors.

Analysis:

The Mayor and Council will make appointments to the SSCAC.  Members shall be residents of the City of Sparks, preferably over the age of 55, who have a desire to learn more about interactions between the city's senior population and city government, and a willingness to share their collective knowledge with others.

On January 28, 2019 the appointments to the board were decided by the Mayor and Council, but 3 positions were left to be filled:

*  One alternate from Ward 1:

     Alternate: Majorie Ball

*  One alternate from Ward 2:

     Alternate: Brian Chamberlin

*  One alternate from Ward 3:

     Alternate: Barbara Sterling

While it is general practice that the Sparks City Council members make appointments from their respective Wards, there may be circumstances which prevent that practice.

Members shall serve a term that is coterminus with their appointing elected official, subject to reappointment every two years.

Alternatives:

The Council could provide other direction.

Recommended Motion:

I move to approve the appointments of Majorie Ball, Brian Chamberlin and Barbara Sterling as alternates to the Sparks Senior Citizens' Advisory Committee for a term that is coterminus with their elected official.
