The Preventative Maintenance Patch Project will permanently patch city owned streets that are on the schedule for the next preventative maintenance project. The patching work must be completed before any type of slurry seal application can be placed. The project advertised on November 7, 2018. The City of Sparks received four (4) qualified bids for this project. Q&D Construction submitted the low bid, on November 28, 2018, in the amount of $279,605.00.
Background:
The City of Sparks strives to keep streets on a consistent preventative maintenance schedule. Proper preventaive maintenance can extend the life expenctancy of the roadway surface and therfore lengthen the longevity of the asphalt. Streets identified for inclusion on upcomong preventative maintenance projects are inspected to determine if any patching is needed before slurry seal type applications. The Preventative Maintenance Patch Project will permanently patch city owned streets that are on on the schedule for the next preventative maintenance project. The patching work done through this project must be completed before any type of slurry seal application can be placed.
Analysis:
The City of Sparks received four (4) qualified bids for this project, which were received November 28, 2018 at 1:45 p.m. and opened on November 28, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. The Engineers Esitimate for the project was $336,360.00.
A bid summary of the qualified bidders is shown below:
- Q&D Construction $279,605.00
- Sierra Nevada Construction $288,007.00
- Asphalt Protectors, Inc $309,942.51
- West Coast Paving $312,142.00
The contract is attached for review and discussion.
Alternatives:
1. City Council could approve the project contract as outlined by Staff.
2. City Council could reject the proposed project contract and provide direction to the City Manager.
Recommended Motion:
I move to approve the 2019 Preventative Maintenance Patch Project contract to Q&D Construction in the amount of $279,605.00.
