Recommendation: City Council accept the grant from the Nell J. Redfield Foundation.

A Business Impact Statement is not required because this is not a rule.
Agenda Item Brief:

Acceptance of this grant will enable the Sparks Parks and Recreation Department to continue the Leisure Without Limits programming for people with disabilities in calendar year 2019.

Background:

The City of Sparks Parks and Recreation Department continues to play a lead role in creating awareness and providing recreational programming for people with disabilities in the Truckee Meadows. The Leisure Without Limits programs include weekly art classes and bowling as well as other seasonal events for people with disabilities including Special Olympics programs and holiday dances. This funding also supports the annual Mark Wellman Adventure Day at the marina. This event provides an opportunity for people to use adaptive equipment in order to rock climb, kayak, and cycle.

Analysis:

The Leisure Without Limits programming is offered at very minimal or no cost to the participants. The Nell J. Redfield grant is needed in order to continue with these programming at an affordable rate for people to participate.

Alternatives:

1.  Council may elect not to accept the grant.

2. Council may direct the City Manager to seek another source of funding.

Recommended Motion:

I move to accept a grant from the Nell J. Redfield Foundation in the amount of $15,350.00 to continue Leisure Without Limits programming for calendar year 2019.
