Title: Consideration, discussion and possible approval of the Mayor’s recommendation of appointments to the Civil Service Commission from the following pool of applicants, listed in alphabetical order: Scott Benton; Louis Dauria and Kaylee Spinhirn.

Recommendation: That council confirm the Mayor's appointments to the Sparks Civil Service Commission.

Background:

The Civil Service Commission provides qualified applicants for employment and protects employees from discrimination or unfair treatment.

Analysis:

The City has three appointments available to the Civil Service Committee; two are to fill three-year terms that expire on June 30, 2021 and one will fill a partial term (through June 30, 2019).

Announcements were made at the April 23, May 14 and May 29 council meetings, and several people have submitted applications expressing interest in serving on the committee. Mayor Martini has conducted brief interviews with the applicants and will announce his recommendation for appointment at the meeting. Council must confirm the appointments.

Alternatives:

The Council could provide other direction.

Recommended Motion:

I move to confirm the mayor's two appointments of _____________________ and ___________________ to the Sparks Civil Service Commission for terms that will expire on June 30, 2021 and one appointment of ___________________to serve a partial term expiring June 30, 2019.
