Background:

The Preventative Maintenance, Slurry Seal Program is a yearly program that provides preventative maintenance treatments on candidate pavements included in the City’s Transportation maintenance plan.  This program will be treating over 1.8 million square feet of roadway surface with a Rapid Setting Slurry Seal.  Refer to attached exhibit for street locations.

Analysis:

The project scope identifies Rapid Setting Slurry Seal, traffic control, public outreach and permanent striping.   The City of Sparks received two (2) qualified bids for this project, which were received June 22, 2016, at 1:45 p.m. and opened on June 22, 2016 at 2:00 p.m.

A bid summary of the qualified bidders is shown below:

  • Engineers Estimate                        $356,600
  • Sierra Nevada Construction             $334,007
  • Intermountain Slurry Seal                $452,750.85

Alternatives:

The Council has the following options:

  1. City Council could award the contract as outlined by Staff.
  2. City Council could reject the proposed contract and provide direction to the City Manager.

Recommended Motion:

I move to award the 2017 Street Preventative Maintenance contract to Sierra Nevada Construction.
