A Business Impact Statement is not required because this is not a rule.
In an effort to enable first responders to protect themselves and assist victims from a chemical Hazmat release, the Sparks Fire Department needs to replace 150 expiring Duo Dote Nerve Agent Antidote Kits. The Duo Dote Antidote kits will protect public safety personnel during a terrorist event, primarily from the release of nerve agents. The medication in the kits prevents the body from absorbing the agent, protecting responders and possible victims. The total amount of the grant, $6,966.00, covers the entire purchase of the 150 kits. The Fire Department is seeking City Council approval to accept this award.
Background:
The Fire Department purchased the current Duo Dote Kits and they have now all expired. The FDA has extended the use of these kits due to a drug shortage. The drug shortage has now been alleviated and the drug extensions are also coming due. Newly purchased Duo Dote Kits would be placed on all fire department apparatus.
Analysis:
These Duo Dote Kits will help protect first responders in case of a chemical release of nerve agent.
The grant requires no matching funds. There are some reporting requirements that will be handled by the Fire Department.
Alternatives:
- Council can reject the acceptance of the grant award.
- Council can approve acceptance of the grant award.
Recommended Motion:
I move to accept the State Homeland Security Program Grant award.
