Title: Consideration and possible approval to purchase two slide in sander/brine applicator units from Henderson Manufacturing in the amount of $107,346.00

Recommendation: Staff recommends that the Council approve the purchase of two sander/brine applicators from Henderson Manufacturing

Financial Impact: $1,515,000 was approved in the FY15 CIP for vehicle replacements. $817,732 of budget authority remains. These two pieces of equipment were included on the FY15 Vehicle Replacement List."

Agenda Item Brief:

Fleet services is requesting permission to spend $107,346.00 to purchase two slide in sander/brine applicator units for truck #512, and #514. This item was approved in the vehicle replacement CIP for FY2015.

Background:

The dump beds in trucks #512 and #514 have integrated sanders which have rusted so badly that they are barely serviceable. The chassis on these two trucks are still in good condition. The decision was made to refurbish these trucks and to increase their versatility by adding the ability to apply brine. This request is part one of the project to refurbish these trucks.

Analysis:

Currently the City owns Henderson Manufacturing sanding products exclusively. It is our intent to sole source these sanders/brine applicators from Henderson Manufacturing to minimize the repair parts that need to be stocked and to minimize training requirements for staff.

Alternatives:

1. Council could approve this purchase as outlined by staff.

2. Council could deny this purchase.

3. Council could direct staff to provide alternatives to this purchase.

Recommended Motion:

I move to approve the purchase of two slide in sander/brine applicators from Henderson Manufacturing in the amount of $107,346.00.
