A Business Impact Statement is not required because this is not a rule.
Approve the purchase of Police Mobile Data Computers as recommended by the IT Division. Purchase is part of the approved IT CIP "WIG" budget for FYR 15. This will include 24 Panasonic ToughBooks as needed per the IT "WIG" and required for these vehicles to work with the Tiburon Police System to be implemented in 2015.
Background:
Sparks Information Technology worked with all departments and divisions last year to build a multi-year replacement plan for all city technology. The IT CIP fund was approved by council in the FYR 15 budget to follow that plan. The current seven year old DataLux Mobile Data Computers were included in the plan to replace this fiscal year. They are beyond the recommended four year life cycle and have reached end of support. Currently we have to replace between 2 an 3 failed units which can cause delay in information reaching police officers. This will also allow us to have all Police vehicles with current technology ready for the Tiburon implementation this next summer. Competitive bids for computer equipment and software is not required by NRS.
Analysis:
Keeping technology current is vital for the city. We have worked closely with all departments to make sure that their technology needs can be meet using the best tecnology available. The current DataLux MDCs have been upgraded as much as possible over the last couple of years to keep them working but at this time replacement is the better long-term solution. IT contacted several vendors to find the best possible solution. Feeney Wireles (FW) ss able to get GSA or better pricing for the provided solution.
Alternatives:
Options include not ratifying this award for Police Mobile Data Computers expense and the authorization of the purchase order and then directing staff further in this regard.
Recommended Motion:
“I move to approve the purchase of computer equipment and software from Feeney Wireless in the amount of $113,280.”
