Financial Impact: $40,700 in Parks District 2 Fund 1407. $100,000 was approved for Project #12-3001, Parks District 2 Facility Enhancement Program, Shadow Mountain Play Structure Replacement Project in the FY12 CIP and $100,000 of budget authority remains.

Agenda Item Brief: Consideration and possible award of the purchase of four Mega Span Shade Systems, from Recreation Republic in the amount of $40,700.00. The purchase of this shade structure will add much needed shade at Shadow Mountain Sports Complex. Staff recommends approval.

Background: Currently there is no shade over the bleachers at the Shadow Mountain Sports Complex. The shade structures will not only provide shade but protection from foul balls from hitting spectators. The Funding for this equipment is coming from Park Construction Tax District 2 Fund 1407.

Analysis: Recreation Republic from California is the supplier of Shade System equipment on the west coast. The purchase of this equipment is through a joinder bid, Houston/Galveston Area Council (HGAC #PR 11-12). The total cost for all four structures is $40,700.00. A copy of the quote and details of structures being purchased are attached for the Councils review.

Alternatives: 1. City Council could approve the purchase of four Mega Span Shade Systems, from Recreation Republic in the amount of $40,700.00 as outlined by Staff. 2. City Council could reject purchase of four Mega Span Shade Systems, from Recreation Republic in the amount of $40,700.00 and provide direction to the City Manager.

Recommended Motion: “I move to award the purchase four Mega Span Shade Systems, from Recreation Republic in the amount of $40,700.00.”
