Business Impact (Per NRS 237):

Agenda Item Brief: Equipment Services is requesting authorization to spend $42,591.00 to replace a skid steer loader for Parks Maintenance.

Background: During the budget process last year one skid steer loader, 774B was identified for replacement. During the fall of 2012 a different skid steer loader, 764C experienced an engine failure. The cost to replace the engine exceeds the value of this equipment. I am requesting permission to replace the failed unit this year and I will defer the replacement of 774B until the next fiscal year.

Analysis: In sourcing the vehicle, if approved, the City would be using the joinder provision allowed under NRS 332.195, and purchasing the vehicle utilizing the National Joint Powers Alliance (NJPA) contract with Cashman Equipment. Utilizing the “joinder” provision allows the City to precisely define the vehicle needed while foregoing the need to formally bid the item.

Alternatives: 1. City Council could approve the steer loader purchase, from Cashman, as outlined by Staff. 2. City Council could reject the purchase from Cashman, and provide direction to the City Manager.

Recommended Motion: I move to approve the purchase of one skid steer loader from Cashman Equipment in the amount of $42,591.00.
