Agenda Item Brief: Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center is interested in amending the current sponsorship agreement with the City of Sparks at designated parks/facilities within the City of Sparks.
Background: On June 23, 2008, the Sparks City Council approved a Partnership Agreement between the City of Sparks and R&R Partners (on behalf of Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center) for sponsorship of designated park/facility areas. The value of the sponsorship was $97,500 (Ninety Seven Thousand Five Hundred Dollars), which supported the purchase of a sound system for Victorian Square and a gym divider at Alf Sorensen Community Center – items that had previously been unfunded, as well as a cash donation. Per the terms of the agreement, Saint Mary’s received signage/branding opportunities at four park/facility locations: Victorian Square (speaker system and naming rights to the Amphitheater), Sparks Marina (trail, dog park and beach), Alf Sorensen Community Center (gym floor, curtain divider and pool) and Shadow Mountain Sports Complex (outfield signs). Sponsorship recognition for the Hometowne Farmer’s Market was also included in the agreement. The length of the Victorian Square sponsorship was for seven years, expiring in 2015. The other locations were for a two year term which has since expired.
Analysis: In addition to the ongoing sponsorship of the sound system and Amphitheater at Victorian Square, Saint Mary’s has opted to continue its sponsorship of the Alf Sorensen Community Center pool and gym areas and twelve outfield panels at Shadow Mountain Sports Complex, for a two-year term through October 31, 2014. The sponsorship amount totals $22,500. Since the City of Sparks no longer produces the Hometowne Farmer’s Market, the amendment to the agreement calls for the replacement of this sponsorship recognition with major sponsorship recognition for Sparks Hometowne Christmas, presented by Intuit and Scheels Turkey Trot events through 2015 (per the expiration date of the original agreement).
Alternatives: Council may choose not to approve the Amendment to the Agreement.
Recommended Motion: I move to approve the Amendment to the Agreement (A-3666) between Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center and the City of Sparks as presented by staff.
