Agenda Item Brief: The United States Marshal Service was able to obtain overtime reimbursement funds from the Department of Justice verifying compliance of sex offenders prior to the Halloween trick or treating activities. The Sparks police Department coordinates the Regional Sex Offender Notification Unit and was able to schedule overtime to work this event. The police department is requesting approval to seek the designated reimbursement funds.


Background: The Regional Sex Offender Notification Unit and the United States Marshal Service (USMS)coordinated a compliance sweep of sex offenders during the time period of October 29-31, 2012. The USMS was able to secure federal funding to assist in paying overtime to conduct the compliance checks in the amount of $1,200.00 for a supervisory and post operation case review and data entry. The RSONU is currently determining the amount utilized and will submit the funding request prior to the January 1, 2013 deadline.

Analysis: None

Alternatives: The Council may choose not to accept the federal reimbursement and cover the overtime costs out of the General Fund.

Recommended Motion: Move to approve the acceptance of overtime reimbursement of up to $1,200.00 from the U.S. Department of Justice, United States Marshal Service for "Operation trick or Treat."
