General Business: 6.1

Title: Consideration and possible acceptance of a Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) grant in the amount of $5,940.00 to purchase a dry chemical extinguishing system for the fire department.
Petitioner/Presenter: Division Chief Andy Koski/Captain Eric Millette
Recommendation: The recommendation is acceptance of the $5,940.00 LEPC grant
Financial Impact: None
Business Impact (Per NRS 237):

A Business Impact Statement is not required because this is not a rule.
Agenda Item Brief: This request involves the acceptance of a LEPC grant to purchase a Williams Powder Keg, 75-lb Dry Chemical Fire Extinguishing System.

Background: The Sparks Fire Department applied for this grant with the intent to purchase a portable dry chemical extinguishing system that will work in conjunction with our foam unit to combat petrochemical fires.

Analysis: The technology utilized in this unit have proven to be effective in applying the dry chemical agent in combination with foam to extinguish pressurized fuel fires that are not able to be effectively controlled using foam alone. The addition of this unit will greatly enhance the fire departments ability to manage these types of incidents.

Alternatives: 1) Council can choose to not accept the LEPC grant. 2) Council can accept the LEPC grant.

Recommended Motion: Move to accept the LEPC grant in the amount of $5,940.00 to purchase a Williams Powder Keg, 75-lb dry chemical fire extinguishing system for the fire department.
