The Sparks Planning Commission has one vacancy for a partial term ending December 31, 2021. Mayor Ed Lawson recommends appointments to the Planning Commission and City Council confirms them.
Background:
The Sparks Planning Commission is a seven (7) member board whose purpose is to review and submit recommendation of approval or disapproval to the Sparks City Council on the following matters:
- Tentative Subdivision Maps
- Rezoning Cases
- Annexations
- Master Plan Amendments
- Title 20 Zoning Ordinance Changes
- Regional Plans That Concern Sparks
- Regional Transportation Plans
The Mayor appoints members to the Planning Commission. Those appointments shall be confirmed by the City Council. Commissioner terms are four (4) years, staggered, and appointees must be Sparks residents and registered voters. The governing authority is NRS Chapter 278 and SMC Chapter 2.14.
Analysis:
Announcements were made for this vacancy during the February 22 and March 8, 2021 City Council meetings. Mayor Ed Lawson reviewed the applications and has chosen Clara Andriola to fill the vacancy.
Alternatives:
1. Council may approve the Mayor's appointment.
2. Council may reject the Mayor's appointment and provide further direction to the Mayor and/or City Manager.
Recommended Motion:
I move to appoint Clara Andriola to the Sparks Planning Commission for a partial term ending December 31, 2021.
