The Building Code Board of Appeals (BCBA) is an independent board created to hear appeals of decisions made by the Building Official regarding interpretations of the Building Code. The BCBA consists of five (5) members, each serving two-year terms. There are two (2) vacancies on the BCBA who will represent the registered architects or builder/superintendent of building construction and must have at least 10 years of experience, five (5) years as responsible charge of work.
This agenda item is requesting the City Council approve the Building Official's recommended appointments to the BCBA.
Background:
- Two (2) registered architects or builder/superintendent of building construction with at least 10 years of experience, five (5) years being responsible charge of work;
- One (1) registered professional with Structural/Civil Engineer experience
- One (1) Mechanical Engineer or a mechanical/plumbing contractor with at least 10 years of experience, five (5) years being responsible charge of work;
- One (1) electrical Engineer or an electrical contractor with at least 10 years of experience, with five (5) years as responsible charge of work.
Analysis:
These vacancies are for two-year terms ending March 31, 2023. The vacancies were advertised at the February 22 and March 8, 2021 City Council meetings. Applications were accepted until March 10, 2021 at 5:00 PM.
Alternatives:
- Council may approve the Building Official's recommendations for appointment.
- Council may reject the Building Official's recommendations for appointment and provide direction to the City Manager.
Recommended Motion:
I move to approve the Building Official's recommendation to appoint Mark DeWeese and Don Mackey as the registered architect and the building/superintendent representatives on the Building Code Board of Appeals, with terms ending March 31, 2023.
