Title: Presentation, discussion, and possible approval of an amended employment agreement (AC-5706) for Chris Crawforth for the position of Chief of Police, effective November 9, 2020, with a yearly salary of $199,056.00 plus benefits.

Recommendation: I recommend approval of the amended employment contract with Chris Crawforth.
Financial Impact: There is no financial impact. Budget impacts were presented as part of the City Manager’s budget recommendations for FY21.

Agenda Item Brief:

On October 26, 2020, Council approved the employment contract, AC-5706, for Police Chief Crawforth.  After review, language regarding sick leave conversion was found to be missing from the contract.  This was an administrative error, and his contract is being resubmitted to the rectify the error.



Background:

On October 26, 2020 Council approved an employment contract for Police Chief Crawforth.  After review, staff determined that there was an administrative error, omitting contract language regarding sick leave conversion options. This amended agreement would correct that error.



Analysis:

Following is a summary of the Agreement reached between the parties. The pay and benefits are the same as submitted in the October 26, 2020 agreement, except for a change in the sick leave conversion benefit.  This benefit was afforded to executives in their former resolution and was not intended to be changed in the individual employment contracts.  There is no financial impact of this change because this benefit is already in place and considered in the City’s budget.

 

 



Alternatives:
  1. Council may choose to approve the amended employment agreement between the City of Sparks and Chris Crawforth for the position of Chief of Police.
  2. Council may choose not to approve the amended employment agreement between the City of Sparks and Chris Crawforth and provide further direction to the City Manager.


Recommended Motion:

I move to approve the amended employment agreement (AC-5706) between the City of Sparks and Chris Crawforth for the position of Police Chief.
