Agenda Item Brief:

With the passing of Mayor Ron Smith, Sparks City Charter declares the Mayor pro tempore will fill the vacancy of the office of the Mayor effective immediately.

Background:

Per Sparks City Charter 1.070

(2) A Vacancy in the office of the Mayor must be filled by the Mayor pro tempore.

(3) The Mayor pro tempore shall serve in the office of the Mayor until his or her successor is elected and qualified at a general election.

and

Sparks City Charter 1.110

Every person elected or appointed under the provisions of sections 1.060 to 1.090, inclusive, shall subscribe to the offical oath as provided by the City Council.

Analysis:

The Honorable Barbara McCarathy will administer the Oath of Office to Mayor Lawson.
