Agenda Item Brief:

Committee appointments.

Background:

The Sparks Senior Citizens Advisory Committee was established on July 9, 2018 by way of Resolution No. 3335.  The committee was formed so that essential senior citizen input would assist in informing the Council of issues related to the senior population and quality of life for seniors.

Analysis:

The Mayor and City Council will make appointments to the SSCAC.  Members shall be residents of the City of Sparks, preferably over the age of 55, who have a desire to learn more about interactions between the city's senior population and city government, and a willingness to share their collective knowledge with others.

The SSCAC currently has two (2) openings for alternate positions:

Ward 2 - coterminus appointment through November 2022; and

Ward 5 - coterminus appointment through November 2020.

While it is general practice that the Sparks City Council members make appointments from their respective Wards, there may be circumstances which prevent that practice.  In that circumstance, they may appoint a resident from the City of Sparks.

Members shall serve a term that is coterminus with their appointing official, subject to reappointment every two years.

Alternatives:

1. Council may confirm the appointments.

2. Council may reject the appointments and provide further direction to the Mayor or City Manager.

Recommended Motion:

I move to approve the appointments of ___________________ as the Ward 2 Alternate representative and ____________________ as the Ward 5 Alternate representative to the Sparks Senior Citizens Advisory Committee, coterminous with their appointing elected official.
