Title: Administer oath of office to newly appointed Assistant City Manager, John A. Martini.

Recommendation: An Oath of Office is administered to newly appointed officials for the city of Sparks.

Financial Impact: None.

Agenda Item Brief:

Sparks Charter Section 1.080(2) "Appointive Positions" states: The City Manager shall appoint the heads of each department.

Sparks Charter Section 1.110 "Oath of Office" states: Every person elected or appointed under the provisions of section 1.060 to 1.090, inclusive, shall subscribe to the official oath as provided by the City Council. Each person shall swear or affirm that he or she is not under any direct or indirect obligation to vote for, appoint, or elect any person to any office, position, or employment in the City government.

Background:

On April 22, 2019 City Manager Neil C. Krutz appointed John A. Martini as the Assistant City Manager, effective May 13, 2019.

Analysis:

Per Sparks City Charter Section 1.080, the City Manager shall appoint an Assistant City Manager.

Alternatives:

The Council may deny administration of the oath.

Recommended Motion:

I move to administer the oath of office to John A. Martini, appointing him as Assistant City Manager for the City of Sparks.
