Agenda Item Brief: The State of Nevada Department of Public Safety, Office of Traffic Safety has offered a $10,000 grant to the Sparks Police Department to purchase computer peripherals that are necessary for officers to issue electronic citations and collect electronic traffic crash records in the field.

Background: Each year the Sparks Police Department participates in the State of Nevada Department of Public Safety, Office of Traffic Safety Joining Forces traffic enforcment program. As a result of the outstanding work done by Sparks Police Department Officers in that program, the Office of Traffic Safety has offered a "Joining Forces Incentive" grant in the amount of $10,000. The Police Deparmtent Administration has elected to use the funds to augument the Department's ability to collect electronic traffic citations and electronic crash records.

Analysis: The use of these grant funds will provide mobile printers that are necessary for officers to issue electronic traffic citations and print "accident exchange cards" from electronic traffic crash reports in the field.

Alternatives: The City can seek funding for this need elsewhere or decline to participate in the electronic collection of traffic citations.

Recommended Motion: Accept the $10,000 equipment grant from the Office of Traffic Safety.
