Agenda Item Brief:

Equipment Services is requesting authorization to spend $117,241 to replace one aerial bucket truck for Public Works Maintenance.

Background:

This request is for the replacement of an existing aerial bucket truck – Unit #543A.  The existing aerial bucket truck has exceeded its scheduled life cycle and is in need of replacement. The replacement aerial bucket truck, Unit #5400, will be a Versalift aerial bucket truckUnit #543A will remain in the fleet as a spare when another truck is down for repair or service, during periods of heavy use such as Christmastime, used at TMWRF for lighting replacement, or for other needs.  The current spare aerial bucket truck, Unit #544A, will be taken out of service and sold at auction.

Analysis:

In sourcing this vehicle, if approved, the City would be using the joinder provision allowed under NRS 332.195, and purchasing these vehicles utilizing Sourcewell (formally NJPA a joint purchasing alliance). Utilizing existing bids have historically been the most competitive. Utilizing the joinder provision allows the City to precisely define the vehicles needed while foregoing the need to formally bid the item.

Alternatives:
  1. Council could approve this purchase as outlined by staff.
  2. Council could deny this purchase and provide direction to the City Manager.

Recommended Motion:

I move to approve the purchase of one aerial bucket truck from National Auto Fleet Group in the amount of $117,241.
