The project involves the complete replacement and rehabilitation of curb gutter, sidewalk, driveway approaches, and asphalt on J Street from Pyramid Way to 1^st Street. The existing curb and gutter infrastructure has deteriorated over time and does not function as designed as flow of storm water runoff is restricted. Because the curb and gutter will be completely removed and replaced, the adjacent sidewalk will also be replaced. In lieu of patching the pavement surface adjacent to the new curb and gutter, the street surface will be rehabilitated. The project is identified within the fiscal year 2018 CIP.

The project advertised on April 25, 2018. The City of Sparks received four (4) qualified bids for this project. Bids were received May 9, 2018 at 1:45pm and opened at 2:00pm.  

A bid summary of the qualified bidders is shown below:               

                Sierra Nevada Construction                         $673,007.00

                Spanish Springs Construction                      $694,444.00

                West Coast Paving                                       $698,000.00

                Granite Construction                                    $743,743.00

The contract is attached for review and discussion. Because this project will utilize some funding from FY19, the project will not start until after July 1, 2018.

1.            City Council could award the project contract as outlined by Staff.

2.            City Council could reject the proposed project contract and provide direction to the City Manager.

I move to approve the 2018 Curb, Gutter, Sidewalk and Pavement Rehabilitation Project contract to Sierra Nevada Construction in the amount of $673,007.
