This is an unplanned project. Resources are available in this fund and a budget augmentation is not necessary in this case.

     A Business Impact Statement is not required because this is not a rule.
Agenda Item Brief:

Additional office space is needed to house additional building department inspection staff required due to the increased development occurring throughout the city of Sparks. This project will remodel and expand the inspectors' office area in the basement of City Hall to provide additional space for staff.  



Background:

With all the growth occurring throughout the city of Sparks, the City needs to increase the number of inspectors to accommodate the increase in development and needs appropriate office space to accommodate the additional staff. This will be done by expanding the current inspectors' office and adding an additional 315 square feet (See the attached map). The project will include the removal of an existing wall, construction of a new wall, installation of new carpet, painting, and reconfiguring existing electrical and mechanical components. 



Analysis:

The City Hall Inspectors Office Remodel Project was solicited to three general contractors with three quotes received at City Hall on April 13, 2018, by 10:00 am, as required by the informal quote package provided to each Contractor. Staff has reviewed the three responsive quotes, found no irregularities, and recommends award of the low quote submitted by Truckee Meadows Construction Inc., in the amount of $55,944, which includes a force account of $2,500. The contract for the project has been attached for reference. A quote recap is provided below for Council’s review.

Alternatives:
  1. City Council could approve the contract as outlined by Staff.

Recommended Motion:

I move to approve the construction contract for the City Hall Inspectors' Office Expansion Project to Truckee Meadows Construction Inc. in the amount of $55,944.
