Title: Consideration, discussion and possible approval of a construction contract (AC-5459) to Thompson Garage Doors for the Fire Station 1 Rollup Door Replacement Project in the amount of $90,030.52.

Recommendation: Council approve the construction contract.
Financial Impact: $90,000 was approved in Capital Facilities – Ad Valorem, Fund 1405, for Project 18-1500. This project will use $90,030.52 of the available funding. The small overage of $30.52 will come from underspent funds within fund 1405.

Agenda Item Brief:

The Fire Station 1 rollup doors require continual maintenance and individual door panels have been replaced over the years.  This Project will replace the garage door panels and mechanical hardware to assure the doors are in reliable operable condition.  


The Fire Station 1 rollup doors are coming to end of their useful life due to the wear and tear on the mechanical hardware and door panels.  The mechanical hardware, door panels, rollers, and tracks are constantly requiring maintenance.  This project will replace all mechanical hardware, rollers, tracks, door panels and other incidental parts to assure the fire department can react in a timely manner to the public’s needs.  Refer to the attached location map.


The rollup doors replacement project was solicited to three (3) garage door Contractors with two (2) quotes received at City Hall on March 2, 2018, by 10:00 am as required by the informal quote package provided to each Contractor.  Staff has reviewed the two responsive quotes, found no irregularities, and recommends award to the low quote submitted by Thompson Garage Doors, in the amount of $90,030.52, which includes a force account of $1,500.  The contract for the project is attached for reference.  A quote recap is provided below for Council’s review.

  1. City Council could approve the contract as outlined by Staff.

I move to approve the construction contract to Thompson Garage Doors for the Fire Station 1 Rollup Door Replacement Project in the amount of $90,030.52.
