Agenda Item Brief: Resolution
Background: The United States Postal Service is considering closing and/or reducing processing services at the Reno Processing and Distribution Center at 2000 Vassar Street, Reno. This would result in the outsourcing of approximately 177 jobs from Reno to West Sacramento and severely reducing mail service standards in Sparks, Reno, and the rest of northern Nevada. The U.S. Postal Service has an obligation to provide efficient, reliable service to rural areas, and the Reno Center serves the largest rural geographical area in the nation. The City of Reno has adopted a Resolution to maintain operations at the Reno Processing and Distribution Center, and the City of Sparks has been asked to adopt a similar Resolution.
Analysis:
Alternatives: Council may choose not to adopt the Resolution
Recommended Motion: I move to adopt the Resolution in support of maintaining operations at the Reno Processing and Distribution Center.
