Agenda Item Brief: Consideration and possible award of the Parlanti Lane Sewer Lift Station Rehabilitation Project, Bid No. 11/12-012, PWP-WA-2012-75 to Peavine Construction, in the amount of $179,000.00. This project will replace the existing sanitary sewer lift station equipment, pumps, piping and controls located on the southwest corner of Parlanti Lane and East Prater Way. Staff recommends approval.

Background: The City of Sparks maintains and operates the sewer lift station located on the southwest corner of East Prater Way and Parlanti Lane. Due to the deteriorated condition of the lift station and the failing controls, operation of the lift station under manual control is resulting in excessive man hours. The existing pumps would be difficult to remove and replace given the current lift station configuration. The engineer’s estimate for the project was $134,000.00.

Analysis: This City of Sparks project will replace the components of the existing wet-well / dry-well lift station with new submersible pumps, valves, piping and control system. The project advertised in the Reno Gazette Journal on November 30, 2011 and copies were distributed to local plan rooms. Seven bids were opened at City Hall on December 15, 2011. Bid results ranged in cost from $179,000.00 to $219,725.00. Below is a recap of the bids: • Peavine Construction, $179,000.00 • RDC, Inc., $182,808.00 • K G Walters Construction, $183,900.00 • A & K Earthmovers, $193,585.00 • Aspen Developers, $207,950.00 • RHP Mechanical Systems, $217,333.00 • Gerhardt & Berry, $219,725.00

Alternatives: 1. City Council could approve the Parlanti Lane Sewer Lift Station Rehabilitation Project as outlined by Staff. 2. City Council could reject the Parlanti Lane Sewer Lift Station Rehabilitation Project and provide direction to the City Manager.

Recommended Motion: “I move to award the Parlanti Lane Sewer Lift Station Rehabilitation Project, Bid No. 11/12-012, PWP-WA-2012-75 to Peavine Construction, in the amount of $179,000.00.”
