Agenda Item Brief:

Equipment Services is requesting authorization to spend $197,173.75 to replace seven vehicles for the Police Department.

Background:

This request is for the replacement of seven vehicles. Units 218B, 234L, 251B, 275A, 276A and 288B have reached or exceeded their scheduled life cycle. Unit 206E was totaled in an accident and is the seventh unit needing replacement. These vehicles will be reevaluated and may be used as a replacement for more worn vehicles in the fleet or will be sold at auction.

Analysis:

In sourcing these vehicles, if approved, the City would be using the joinder provision allowed under NRS 332.195, and purchasing these vehicles utilizing the State of Nevada vehicle bid. Utilizing existing bids have historically been the most competitive. Utilizing the “joinder” provision allows the City to precisely define the vehicles needed while foregoing the need to bid the item formally.

Alternatives:
  1. Council could approve this purchase as outlined by staff.
  2. Council could deny this purchase, and provide direction to the City Manager.

Recommended Motion:

I move to approve the purchase of seven vehicles from Carson Dodge in the amount of $197,173.75.
