Agenda Item Brief:

Consideration and possible approval of a claim for reimbursement of moving expenses related to the construction of the North Truckee Drain Realignment Phase 3 project, by Cal Freight a lessee of 2090 Kleppe Lane, Unit A, in the amount of $112,000. The claim covers moving expenses from the existing yard at Kleppe Lane, which is significantly impacted by the North Truckee Drain Phase 3 construction, to a temporary yard at Peterbilt Trucking on Larkin Circle.  The claim also covers increased operating costs.  Refer to attachments for claim back-up information.

Background:

Cal Freight, a division of Sandair Inc., leases 2090 Kleppe Lane, Unit A and yard space, from the Star Professional Building owned by the Krugs’ and Bellons’.  The yard space has historically been used for transportation truck parking.  Construction activities for North Truckee Drain Phase 3 have caused their yard space to be temporarily unusable.  Cal Freight has relocated their parking to Peterbilt at 2272 Larkin Circle.  As part of this relocation, daily transportation and offsite equipment maintenance costs are incurred.  A claim was submitted to the City for reimbursement of the moving expenses, as well as the increased personnel costs.

Analysis:

The claim for reimbursement, including Cal Freights breakdown of costs, are attached to the agenda item for Council’s review.

Alternatives:
  1. City Council could approve payment for reimbursement as outlined by Staff.

2City Council could reject the payment for reimbursement and provide direction to the City Manager.

Recommended Motion:

I move to approve payment for reimbursement of moving expenses and operating costs related to the construction of the North Truckee Drain Realignment Phase 3 project by Cal Freight, a lessee of 2090 Kleppe Lane, Unit A, in the amount of $112,000.
