Agenda Item Brief:

Equipment Services is requesting authorization to spend $119,474.39 to replace two vehicles for the Police Department and one for Parks Maintenance Department.

Background:

This request is for the replacement of three vehicles 241K, 2400 and 425B. These vehicles have reached and exceeded their life cycle. These vehicles will be reevaluated and may be used as a replacement for more worn vehicles in the fleet or sold at auction.

Analysis:

In sourcing these vehicles, if approved, the City would be using the joinder provision allowed under NRS 332.195, and purchasing these vehicles utilizing the State of Nevada vehicle bid. Utilizing existing bids have historically been the most competitive. Utilizing the “joinder” provision allows the City to precisely define the vehicles needed while foregoing the need to bid the item formally.

Alternatives:
  1. Council could approve this purchase as outlined by staff.
  2. Council could deny this purchase and provide direction to the City Manager.

Recommended Motion:

I move to approve the purchase of three vehicles from Champion Chevrolet in the amount of $119,474.39.
