With Council approval, BCI Burke Company will provide play equipment to be installed at the proposed new Silverton Shores Park. Staff recommends approval.
Background:
Silverton Shores Park is the last park identified for construction as a part of the Wingfield Springs Planned Unit Development. City of Sparks Parks and Recreation Commission reviewed play equipment configurations on December 14, 2017 and felt this was the best option for the new park.
Analysis:
The attached proposal for play equipment from BCI Burke is based upon the City of Sparks Park and Recreation Commission recommendations. The playground equipment will consist of two main play areas. One area is for 2-5 year old’s and another for 5-12 year old’s. The cost of the installation of the equipment is included within the bid for construction of the Silverton Shores Park and Wingfield Trail Bid 17/18-006, which has been submitted for Councils review and possible approval, during the September 11, 2017 Council meeting.
If approved by Council, the purchase of the play equipment will consist of two Purchase Orders.
- BCI Burke - $68,653.14
- State of Nevada - $5,674.18 (Washoe County Sales Tax 8.265%)
The City is required to pay sales tax per NRS on all materials purchased and supplied to a contractor for installation. The playground design and proposal is attached for your review.
Alternatives:
1. City Council could approve the playground equipment purchase as outlined by Staff.
2. City Council could reject the playground equipment purchase and provide direction to the City Manager.
Recommended Motion:
I move to approve a purchase of play equipment for Silverton Shores Park, in the amount of $74,327.32 from BCI Burke Company, LLC.
