Title: Consideration of and possible approval of the Mayor's recommendation of the appointment of Shelley Read to the Sparks Planning Commission for the remainder of a four-year term from the following pool of applicants, listed in alphabetical order: Jeff Bowling, Joshua Fink, Paul Freeman, Johanna Lee, Jennifer Martinez and Shelley Read.

Recommendation: That Council confirm the Mayor's recommendation of the appointment of Shelley Read to the Sparks Planning Commission.

Background:

The City of Sparks Planning Commission has one vacancy due to the resignation of Art Sperber.

Ms. Shelley Read will fill the vacancy left by Commissioner Sperber. Commissioner Sperber served the Sparks Planning Commission from January 2011 to June 2017. Ms. Read has served on the Sparks Citizen Advisory Board, the Rotary Club of Sparks and is a member of the American Public Works Association. Ms. Read will serve the remainder of Commissioner Sperber's term through December 21, 2018 and will be eligible for reappointment should she be interested.

An announcement of the vacancy was made at the June 26, 2017 and July 10, 2017 City Council Meetings.

If the Council rejects the appointment of Ms. Shelley Read, the Mayor shall appoint another person from the remaining applictions and the Council shall consider ratification either at the present meeting or at the next regularly scheduled meeting of the Council.

Recommended Motion:

I move to confirm the appointment of Ms. Shelley Read to the Sparks Planning Commission for the remainder of a four-year term through December 31, 2018.
