Title: Consideration, discussion and possible appointment of an alternate member to the Regional Planning Governing Board for the remainder of a three-year alternate term (from the following pool of applicants listed in alphabetical order: Kristopher Dahir and Ron Smith.)

Recommendation: That the Council select the appointment to the Regional Planning Governing Board.

Background:

The Regional Planning Governing Board is responsible for regional planning policy issues and adopts the Regional Plan based on recommendations put forward by the Regional Planning Commission. The Board has ten members; three from Washoe County; four from the City of Reno; and three from the City of Sparks.

Analysis:

The City of Sparks’ 3 appointments to the Regional Planning Governing Board are staggered, three-year terms. Each appointee is an elected official; the current members are Council Member Ed Lawson; Council Member Charlene Bybee, Council Member Donald Abbott and a vacant alternate position.

The person appointed to the alternate position would serve the remainder of the following term: 11/28/16 - 1/30/19.

Alternatives:

Council could give other direction.

Recommended Motion:

I move to appoint _________________as an alternate to the Regional Planning Governing Board, filling the remainder of a three year term through January 30, 2019.
