Agenda Item Brief:

Discussion and possible approval of payment of $5,000 to Western Nevada Development District.

Background:

WNDD was incorporated as a Non-Profit Corporation in November 1983 and designated by the U.S. Economic Development Administration as an Economic Development District (EDD) in 1984.

The Board of Directors is comprised of elected, appointed officials as well as agency staff and business representatives from the counties and cities that make up WNDD.

The original four counties were Carson City, Douglas, Lyon and Storey. In the late 1980’s Churchill, Pershing and Mineral were added. The following counties became part of the EDD recently: Humboldt, 2011 and Washoe, 2012. The cities of Reno, Sparks and Fernley are also members of the District.

WNDD strives to promote and enhance collaboration towards the goal of the development of workforce and infrastructure for economic vitality.

Analysis:

This payment is for annual dues for the city's membership in Western Nevada Development District for FY18.

Alternatives:

1. The City Council may approve payment of $5,000 to Western Nevada Development District;

2. The City Council may not approve payment of $5,000 to Western Nevada Development District;

3. The City Council may provide alternate direction to the City Manager.

Recommended Motion:

I move to approve payment of $5,000 to Western Nevada Development District.
