Recommendation: That the Council select the appointment to the Regional Planning Governing Board.

Background:

The Regional Planning Governing Board is responsible for regional planning policy issues and adopts the Regional Plan based on recommendations put forward by the Regional Planning Commission. The Board has ten members; three from Washoe County; four from the City of Reno; and three from the City of Sparks.

Analysis:

The City of Sparks’ 3 appointments to the Regional Planning Governing Board are staggered, three-year terms. Each appointee is an elected official; the current members are Mayor Geno Martini; Council Member Ed Lawson; Council Member Charlene Bybee and Council Member Donald Abbott, as an alternate. Charlene Bybee’s appointment expires on June 30, 2017 and she wishes to seek reappointment on the Regional Planning Governing Board.

Alternatives:

Council could give other direction.

Recommended Motion:

I move to re-appoint Council Member Charlene Bybee to the Regional Planning Governing Board for a three-year term of June 30, 2017 to June 30, 2020.
