Agenda Item Brief:

This mutual aid agreement between the Sparks Fire Department and National Guard Bureau is brand new. The agreement has already been approved by the Federal Government.

Background:

The Sparks Fire Department maintains cooperative agreements with local, state, and federal fire agencies to provide resources to assist each other with emergencies that exceed the capabilities of a single agency.

This mutual aid agreement between the Sparks Fire Department and National Guard Bureau is brand new. The contract will be valid for a period of five (5) years.

This new agreement will take effect once approved by the Sparks City Council and signed.

Analysis:

Cooperative agreements are crucial in mitigating those emergencies that exceed the capabilities of a single agency. This agreement expands our pool of resouces in the region that the Sparks Fire Department can call when extra help is needed.

Alternatives:
  1. Council can choose to not approve the Mutual Aid Agreement between the City of Sparks and the US Department of Defense, National Guard Bureau.
  2. Council can accept the recommended motion.

Recommended Motion:

I move to approve the Mutual Aid Agreement between the City of Sparks and the Department of Defense, National Guard Bureau.
