Agenda Item Brief:

Consideration and possible award of the 2016 Parking Lot Rehabilitation Project, Bid No. 15/16-017 contract to Sierra Nevada Construction in the amount of $162,007. Staff recommends that council award the contract.



Background:

The 2016 Parking Lot Rehabilitation project was based on an evaluation conducted in the Spring of 2016. At which time, inspections of the City’s parking lot areas were identified, reviewed and prioritized based on current conditions. Burgess Park, Shelly Park and City Hall, Administration Parking lots were ranked with the lowest existing conditions and therefore prioritized for reconstruction.



Analysis:

The project scope identifies the need to remove and replace rundown valley gutters, curb, gutters, sidewalks, sidewalk ramps and reconstruct the parking lots with new asphalt on the sections highlighted on the attached Parking Lot Rehabilitation site maps.

The City of Sparks received two (2) qualified bids for this project, which were received May 26, 2016 at 1:45 p.m. and opened on May 26, 2016 at 2:00 p.m.

A bid summary of the qualified bidders is shown below:

  • Engineers Estimate                 $172,500
  • Sierra Nevada Construction      $162,007
  • Spanish Springs Construction   $212,444


Alternatives:

       

City Council could award the contract as outlined by Staff.

City Council could reject the proposed project and provide direction to the City Manager.



Recommended Motion:

I move to award the contract to Sierra Nevada Construction as outlined by staff.
