Title: Consideration and possible approval of the 2016-Regional Hazardous Material Response Agreement between the City of Sparks, City of Reno, and Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District.

Recommendation: The recommendation is for Council to approve the proposed 2016- Regional Hazardous Material Response Agreement between the Sparks Fire Department, the City of Reno, and Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District.

Agenda Item Brief:

This current agreement has been updated and agreed upon by all entities involved. The new agreement is effective upon approval by the Sparks City Council, the City of Reno, and Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District. The purpose of this Agreement is to provide a Regional Hazardous Material Response Team capable of responding to and mitigating emergencies cause by hazardous material spills, releases, or incidents within the combined response areas of the Agencies.



Background:

The Sparks Fire Department maintains cooperative agreements with local, state, and federal fire agencies to provide resources to assist each other with emergencies that exceed the capabilities of a single agency. The combined Haz-Mat team has been together since 1986. 



Analysis:

Cooperative agreements are crucial in mitigating those emergencies that exceed the capabilities of a single agency. The City of Sparks, City of Reno, and Truckee Meadows Fire PD have a long history of working together in the resolution of hazardous material incidents. This agreement ensures this relationship into the future.



Alternatives:

1) Council can accept the recommended motion.

2) Council can shoose to not approve the 2016-Regional Hazardous Material Response Agreement.



Recommended Motion:

Move to approve the 2016-Regional Hazardous Material Response Agreement.
