Title: Consideration of and possible approval of the Mayor's recommendation of reappointment of James Fewins and the appointment of Dian VanderWell to the Sparks Planning Commission from the following pool of applicants, listed in alphabetical order: Jeff Bowling, Scott Carey, James Fewins, Johanna Lee, Jennifer Martinez, David Shocket, and Dian VanderWell.

Recommendation: That Council confirm the Mayor's recommendation of the reappointment of James Fewins and the appointment of Dian VanderWell to the Sparks Planning Commission.

Background:

The City of Sparks Planning Commission has two vacancies due to the expiration of terms effective December 31, 2015.

Mr. James Fewins has served one term on the Sparks Planning Commission and is willing to serve for another four years. Mr. Fewins is currently the Chair of the Planning Commission.

Ms. Dian VanderWell will fill the vacancy left by Commissioner Nowicki. Commissioner Nowicki served on the Sparks Planning Commission from 2003 - 2015 and is termed out. Ms. VanderWell has served on the Washoe County Planning Commission and the Truckee Meadows Regional Planning Commission. Ms. VanderWell is also a graduate of the Washoe County Leadership Academy, Builders Association of Nevada Associate of the Year 2006, 2005 Nominee Women's Council, and National Association of Homebuilders Women of the year.

Announcement of the vacancies was made at the November 23 and December 14 City Council Meetings and the December 3 Planning Commission Meeting. Applications were received from Mr. Jeff Bowling, Mr. Scott Carey, Mr. James Fewins, Ms. Johanna Lee, Ms. Jennifer Martinez, Mr. David Shocket and Ms. Dian VanderWell.

Alternatives:

If the Council rejects the reappointment of Mr. James Fewins or the appointment of Ms. Dian VanderWell, the Mayor shall appoint another person from the remaining applications and Council shall consider ratification either at the present meeting or at the next regularly scheduled meeting of the Council.

Recommended Motion:

I move to confirm the reappointment of Mr. James Fewins and the appointment of Ms. Dian VanderWell to the Sparks Planning Commission through December 31, 2019.
